Reclaimed from sea

From Amsterdam to Enkhuizen

The serenity of Waterland is best experienced from a silent electrical boat. From Edam -famous for the Edammer cheese- you explore the coastline of the IJsselmeer on a bicycle. The ferry takes us to the island of Marken that is now connected to the mainland by a dike.

The Beemster is the first so-called polder in the Netherlands and added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. You visit the villages Graft and De Rijp and you stay at a typical Dutch farm.

We leave to visit the windmills of the Schermerpolderand a nearby cheese maker. Alkmaar is well known for its cheese market.
Take place in the seats for auction when you visit an unique auction building from 1912, build on the water.

At the great divide from the IJsselmeer to the North Sea, the Afsluitdijk (Closure Dike), you end this tour.
