Glance of Holland

Countryside around Amsterdam

Enjoy a fascinating sight at the flower auction of Aalsmeer (flower capital of the world). The colors and activity will dazzle you.

A large part land from the Nethererlands has been created out of water. For draining smaller lakes we used windmills.
At "De Cruquius", you experience how the Haarlemmermeerpolder was drained and land was created out of water.

The Beemster is the first so-called polder in the Netherlands and added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. You visit the villages Graft and De Rijp in the polder on foot or bicycle. We will pass windmills and Fort Spijkerboor. This fort is part of the Defence line of Amsterdam', which is also on the World Heritage list.

In the old fishing town of Volendam the ferry takes us to the island of Marken, crossing the IJsselmeer. On this island, in the former Zuiderzee, traditional dresses are still being worn. Most of the typical wooden houses are listed as a national monument.

By the end of the day you will have good impression about what the Netherlands have got to offer.
